Course Outline

The English and Sustainability course is a blend between English language learning and a critical exploration of the environmental issues. Students will have the opportunity to improve their language proficiency while engaging with one of the most pressing global challenges. The course emphasizes the development of English communication skills through discussions, readings and writing tasks centered around environmental themes.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will be able to identify and describe different types of environmental issues and discuss their causes and effects.
  • Students will be able to understand the main ideas in a news report about business trends, identifying key terms and general developments.
  • Students can discuss noise pollution and other types of pollution using basic and more advanced phrases, describe their causes, and suggest various ways to reduce them.
  • Students will be able to analyze an article on unsustainable tourism and ecotourism, critically assess the arguments presented, and evaluate the effectiveness of different ecotourism practices as solutions to mass tourism issues.
  • Students will be able to participate in a simple roleplay or debate about artificial food, presenting opinions and responding to others.
